Melbourne Airport has once again claimed the title of Best Airport in Australia and the Pacific at the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards, marking its third consecutive win and fifth time in six years.
The awards, announced overnight in Madrid, are based on the world’s largest annual airport customer satisfaction survey, with more than 565 airports assessed by travellers across a broad range of criteria.
Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus credited the achievement to the airport’s dedicated team, customer-first approach, and ongoing infrastructure investment.
“We’re humbled that travellers have again voted us the best airport in our region, particularly at a time when we’re undertaking so much construction,” she said.
“The needs of travellers are always front of mind and our ‘Stepping Forward’ program empowers and encourages our staff to offer genuine assistance to passengers wherever they need it.
“Every journey starts or ends with our people – from our customer-facing staff who embody Melbourne’s renowned friendliness, to those behind the scenes keeping operations running smoothly. This award is a celebration of the 18,000 people who work at Melbourne Airport.”
Recent investments in new retail and dining options, enhanced security screening, upgraded baggage systems and improvements to airfield infrastructure have helped elevate the traveller experience.
Major projects on the horizon include a transformation of the airport’s road network, the construction of a third runway and an expansion of the international terminal.
“We have some major works ahead of us,” Argus added, “and we thank people for their patience as we continue to build the airport our travellers deserve.”
The Skytrax awards are regarded as a benchmark for excellence in the aviation industry, with survey results reflecting traveller feedback on accessibility, operations, cleanliness, amenities, staff service and use of technology. The voting process is fully independent, with no airport influence on results.
Melbourne’s win reaffirms its reputation as a leading gateway for international and domestic travel in the region.
