On Foot Holidays has launched a new self-guided walking holiday through the hills of Catalonia in Spain.

The trip takes hikers through medieval villages, river gorges, vineyards and olive groves in the hinterland of Barcelona.

The nine-night ‘Catalonia: The Southern Hills’ route begins in the wine town of Falset, winding through hilltop towns including Tivissa, Miravet on the Ebro River and Horta de Sant Joan before ending at the Ebro in Xerta.

Daily stages cover 10 to 19 kilometres and are graded medium in effort, with luggage transferred between accommodation each night so hikers carry only a light day pack.

The holiday includes nine nights in rural inns and bed and breakfasts, daily breakfasts, five picnic lunches, four dinners, luggage transfers and all maps and directions in print or via On Foot Holidays’ new Companion App.

It is priced from £1,410 (approx. $2,728) per person twin share, with shorter six-, seven- or eight-night versions also available.

A 10 per cent saving applies when two On Foot Holidays walks are booked for the same European trip, with the discount applying to the cheaper holiday.

The new Catalonia route links with On Foot Holidays’ other Catalonia walk at Falset, making a seamless combination.

The walk is available from April to June and September to November each year and brings the company’s total to 41 self-guided walks across 11 European countries.
