As artificial intelligence becomes part of everyday business, CATO is urging travel professionals to think beyond productivity and consider the security risks that can come with using AI tools.

In partnership with cybersecurity and technology specialist Axelo, CATO will host a webinar tomorrow (4 August) designed to help travel businesses use AI safely while protecting sensitive client information.

The session comes as more travel advisors turn to AI for tasks ranging from marketing and content creation to customer service and administration. However, CATO says many businesses may not realise the risks of entering client information into publicly available AI platforms.

Travel businesses routinely handle highly sensitive personal information, including passport details, payment information and travel itineraries, making data security a critical consideration when adopting new technology.

The webinar will examine where AI can genuinely improve efficiency, when its output needs to be verified and what the latest generation of AI agents can and cannot do. It will also cover the risks of using free AI tools, ownership of AI generated content and the practical steps businesses should take to comply with Australian privacy laws, including implementing a simple AI policy.

CATO Director and Education lead Mira Yates said members were eager to embrace AI but wanted confidence they were doing so responsibly.

“We know that our members are curious and interested in adopting AI but also have real concerns,” Yates said.
“Our webinar with Axelo will give members clear guidance and assurance about AI’s limitations and tools for using it safely.”

Yates said AI presented enormous opportunities for the travel industry, but businesses also needed to understand the challenges that came with it.

“AI is a huge opportunity for growth in the travel industry, but it also poses a complicated, very new type of challenge. This webinar is a must attend for members who are, or are considering, adopting AI to their businesses.”

Axelo CEO Nik Devidas said combining cybersecurity with staff education was essential as AI became more widely used across the industry.

“AI is a very powerful product that, if used correctly, will boost your business but at the same time, managing cybersecurity risks is essential,” Devidas said.

The webinar will be held on Tuesday 4 August at 11am AEST.
