New direct flights between Vietnam and Western Sydney International Airport are expected to strengthen family, tourism and business links between Vietnam and one of Australia’s largest Vietnamese communities.
Vietjet announced the new connection on August 10, with representatives from Western Sydney International Airport and local tourism and hospitality businesses attending the announcement.
Cabravale Club Resort, located in Cabramatta, welcomed the development, noting that around three quarters of its membership has Vietnamese heritage.
Vicki Le, Cabravale Club Resort Chief Commercial Officer, said the flights would have particular significance for families and visitors travelling between Western Sydney and Vietnam.
“For so many people in Western Sydney, Vietnam means family, heritage and home. These direct flights will make it easier for families to be together, while creating exciting new opportunities for tourism, business and cultural exchange in both directions,” Ms Le said.
The resort has invested in new hospitality infrastructure as Western Sydney prepares for increased international visitation, including Novotel Sydney Cabramatta, dining, entertainment and conference facilities.
The announcement coincides with the Vietnam Tourism Promotion Roadshow in Sydney, which is recognising 35 years of aviation connectivity and tourism cooperation between Australia and Vietnam.
For the Western Sydney visitor economy, the new air link is expected to provide another source of international visitors while improving access for residents travelling to Vietnam.
