Vietnam Airlines has marked 35 years of connecting Vietnam and Australia as the Vietnam Tourism Promotion Roadshow in Australia 2026 brought tourism, aviation and travel industry partners together in Sydney.
The airline’s anniversary event, held on 10 August during the State Visit to Australia by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and President To Lam, also marked its 35,000th flight between the two countries and its 7.5 millionth passenger on the Vietnam Australia network.
Vietnam Airlines now operates 25 return flights each week across five routes, connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Services are operated by Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft.
Demand for travel between the two countries continues to grow. More than 809,000 passengers travelled in the Vietnam Australia air market during the first six months of 2026, up 11.5 per cent on the same period in 2025. Average load factors on Vietnam Australia services remained above 83 per cent.
The tourism promotion programme also saw Vietnam Airlines join Vietnamese tourism agencies and businesses in signing a cooperation agreement with Flight Centre Travel Group. The agreement will focus on destination promotion, tourism product development, market expansion and stronger connections between businesses in both markets.
Vietnam Airlines also exchanged memorandums of understanding with Trip.com and RMIT University at the Vietnam Australia Techconnect Forum. The partnerships are intended to support destination marketing, aviation talent development and wider trade and tourism links.
Dang Ngoc Hoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines, said air connectivity was an important enabler of trade, investment and tourism.
“Australia remains a key international market for Vietnam Airlines,” he said. “We will continue to invest in our network, fleet and service quality, while strengthening partnerships across the market.”
The roadshow highlighted the role aviation has played in the deepening relationship between Vietnam and Australia. As the countries continue their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the sector is set to remain central to travel, business and people to people links.
