Intrepid Travel have sponsored a film to raise awareness of pressing environmental concerns in the Clarence River.

The documentary, which premiered on January 20, aims to amplify the voice of the Clarence River and its First Nations communities in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.

Entitled RIVERTREE, the documentary showcases the local struggles associated with up to 40 exploratory mining permits being granted and inspiring actions to safeguard this vital environmental and cultural asset.

“The Clarence River and its surrounding communities find themselves at a pivotal crossroads due to the looming threat of mining in the region,” said Brett Mitchell, Managing Director ANZ at Intrepid Travel.

“The region also holds special importance for the three First Nations lands of the Yaegl, Bundjalung and Gumbaynggirr through which the Clarence River flows.

“As a purpose-led and responsible travel provider, we are committed to protecting local communities and the environment and are proud to work with RIVERTREE Film and Patagonia to raise awareness of this pressing issue.”

The film will be screened in Burleigh Heads, QLD, on February 28, Byron Bay, NSW, on March 3, Melbourne on March 6 and Torquay, VIC, on March 8.
