Travellers heading to the United States in 2027 will find a mix of major openings, milestone anniversaries and new cultural attractions across the country, spanning food, music, rail heritage and the outdoors.

Baltimore will mark 200 years of American railroads, dating back to the 1827 charter of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.

The renamed National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation will debut restored rail cars, an Innovation Hall and a Future of Rail exhibition as part of the anniversary.

Food travellers will have a new reason to visit Portland, with the James Beard Public Market scheduled to open in spring.

The year-round market will feature around 40 small businesses and vendors, including farm stands, a fish market, butcher, bakery and teaching kitchen.

Detroit’s Motown Museum is also set to reopen in spring following a $US75 million expansion of the original Hitsville U.S.A. site.

New additions will include interactive exhibitions, a recording studio, performance theatre and spaces dedicated to entrepreneurship and education.

In Florida, Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is planned to open at Walt Disney World Resort in summer 2027, adding nearly 1,000 rooms, waterfront lake houses, restaurants, pools and a lazy river.

Nature-focused travellers can visit Georgia’s Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge following its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The large blackwater swamp offers 190 kms of paddling trails, guided boat tours, platform camping and dark sky experiences.

Hawaii will also mark a significant hospitality anniversary, with The Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki celebrating its centenary in February.

Renovations, cultural programming, art restoration and anniversary events are planned around the milestone.
