If you ever needed proof that Africa is having a moment, just step onto the buzzing floor of Africa’s Travel INDABA in Durban.
It’s back, it’s bold, and it’s brimming with big ideas, big deals – and even bigger heart.
In a spirited opening at Africa’s Travel Indaba 2025 in Durban, South African Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille delivered a keynote address that resonated with optimism and ambition. Embracing the theme “Unlimited Africa,” she emphasized the continent’s boundless potential in the global tourism landscape.
With the theme “Unlimited Africa,” de Lille emphasized that Indaba is more than a trade show; it’s a platform to reshape narratives, forge connections, and unlock shared value across the continent.
:“INDABA is where Africa shines.” And shine it does – with a spirit of collaboration, a commitment to sustainability, and a contagious energy that says: Watch this space!
Because INDABA isn’t just about selling safari tents and spa packages – it’s about telling Africa’s story, on Africa’s terms. It’s where local meets global, and where the future of African travel is being written, deal by deal – and with a whole lot of flair.
De Lille went on to highlight the event’s significance, noting the participation of over 1,300 exhibitors and delegates from 27 African countries, including newcomers Chad, St Helena, and Burkina Faso. This diverse representation underscores Indaba’s role in positioning Africa as a leader in global tourism dialogue.
De Lille also spotlighted the economic impact of tourism, referencing the R226 million generated in direct economic activity in Durban during the previous year’s Indaba, along with the creation of over 1,000 jobs.
As the G20 Summit graces African soil for the first time, de Lille sees Indaba as a stage to showcase Africa’s readiness to host world-class events and drive inclusive growth
In her closing, she extended an invitation to all delegates: “South Africa awaits – come find your joy.”
