Australia’s river cruising scene is set for a major transformation with the debut of the PS Australian Star this spring.
As the country’s first five-star, overnight riverboat, the new vessel promises to offer a unique way to experience the Murray River, departing from Echuca, Victoria. Combining contemporary luxury with heritage charm, the PS Australian Star will be the largest paddlesteamer in the Southern Hemisphere, and the only wood-fired, five-star paddlesteamer in the world.
To mark the upcoming launch, Murray River Paddlesteamers is offering up to 20% off overnight cruises in 2026 and 2027. Bookings must be made by June 30, 2025, to take advantage of these offers, which are available for both the three to seven-night itineraries.
Currently under construction in Mildura, the PS Australian Star is designed to combine elegance with an authentic paddlesteamer experience. The 38-guest vessel will feature 19 deluxe staterooms, each equipped with modern comforts such as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, luxury linen, and ensuite bathrooms. Guests will also enjoy panoramic river views, a fine-dining restaurant, and a spacious lounge.
The PS Australian Star will feature a hybrid diesel/steam propulsion system, powered by a historic 1907 wood-fired steam engine. This combination of modern and nostalgic technology aims to deliver an energy-efficient, eco-friendly cruising experience on the Murray River.
From spring 2025, the PS Australian Star will offer year-round cruises ranging from three to seven nights, providing a new way to explore the iconic Murray River.
