Vietnam is rapidly becoming Southeast Asia’s hottest destination for Aussie travellers.
Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reveal traveller numbers increased 54% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2019.
Now new data from experiences booking platform, Klook, shows the trend is set to increase.
According to Klook, hotel bookings in Vietnam have risen by 250% between March and June, compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, activity bookings in the destination surged by as much as 170% during the same period.
“We’re excited to be expanding our experience and accommodation offerings across the region to meet the growing demand, particularly in Vietnam,” said Henry Hooper, Klook’s Managing Director of Oceania, UK and The Americas.
“While Vietnam has traditionally remained an undiscovered destination for Aussies visiting Southeast Asia, this shift comes at a time when increasing flight options have launched and tourism infrastructure is continuing to develop rapidly in the destination.”
While increasing numbers of Australians are visiting Southeast Asia generally, up by 24% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to 2019 according to ABS numbers, Aussies’ appetite for Vietnam is rapidly outpacing other popular destinations globally.
Klook data also shows hotel bookings in perennial favourite Thailand have more than doubled, rising 145%, between the same March to June period.
“Within easy reach of Australia and with increasing low-cost and full service flight connections being made available to Australians, it’s no surprise the growing popularity of Southeast Asia to Aussie travellers is unrelenting – especially as other regions around the world take a backseat, whether it be to do with issues of over tourism or geopolitical tensions elsewhere,” added Mr Hooper.
