The meeting at Darling Harbour in Sydney focused on reconnecting and celebrating the team’s efforts in promoting the Solomons as an attractive visitor destination.
Fiona Teama, Head of Sales and Marketing, Tourism Solomons, said the organisation was thrilled with the coverage given to the destination in the Australian media.
“We don’t get to see everybody as often as we want to but all of you here play a very important role in us moving forward as an industry for the Solomon Islands,” she said.
“I think at this juncture we’re getting stronger in terms of collaboration with other Pacific Island destinations. We’re working very closely with destinations as big as Fiji and even with Vanuatu.
“In terms of the airline landscape, we are very well connected now. We’ve now got a direct route from Brisbane into Munda, our second international airport.
“So these are key development areas that are critical for the industry moving forward.”
Ms Teama revealed upcoming developments in the Solomons included some new dive product and accommodation options coming online.
“We’ve seen an increase in our visitor arrivals. We’re up about 11% over the past four months so we’re looking forward to continuing that positive growth as we move throughout 2025 and onwards.”
Ms Teama also mentioned that for the first time her organisation had been nominated in the Most Popular Tourism Office category in the National Tourism Industry Awards (NTIA).
