The incident began around 5:30pm in the domestic terminal when a single metal detector experienced a technical fault, prompting airport authorities to re-screen every individual inside the building.

While officials confirmed there was no safety or security threat, the precautionary measure led to long queues stretching outside the terminal and delayed at least 10 flights, with one Jetstar service cancelled.

“The fault was quickly identified and there is no safety or security threat,” said a Brisbane Airport spokesperson.

“However, it will take some time to re-screen all passengers and staff, delaying flights. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank passengers for their patience and understanding.”

Images shared on social media showed frustrated travellers waiting in snaking lines, some describing the scene as “a complete standstill.”

Airport staff activated a care team to assist affected passengers, while screening operations gradually returned to normal by 8:30pm

The international terminal remained unaffected throughout the ordeal.
