A recent survey by Talker Research found that a growing number of Americans are using artificial intelligence tools, especially ChatGPT, to plan their vacations. The study polled 2,000 adults across generations, including Gen Z, millennials, Gen X and baby boomers.

According to the findings, younger travellers are leading the shift. Only 29 per cent of millennials and 33 percent of Gen Z respondents said they had never used AI for trip planning. In contrast, 70 per cent of baby boomers reported never using AI for that purpose.

Among those who do use AI, comparing flight prices is the most common use, with 29 per cent saying they rely on tools like ChatGPT to find the best deals. Others use AI for generating travel itineraries and discovering new destinations.

Social media and online platforms are also changing how people find vacation ideas. YouTube is now the top source of inspiration, with 34 per cent of respondents saying they turn to the platform for travel content. That puts it ahead of advice from family members at 30 per cent and friends at 28 per cent.

The generational divide is even more noticeable on platforms like TikTok. While 52 per cent of Gen Z use the app to get vacation ideas, only two per cent of baby boomers do the same.

The survey highlights how AI and digital tools are becoming a core part of how Americans approach travel, particularly among younger generations who are more comfortable using technology for research and decision-making.
