Outback Spirit takes guests off the beaten track and into some of Australia’s most remote and breathtaking landscapes.

For the past 10 years, Mel Salzone has been at the heart of these journeys, personally guiding travellers through unforgettable adventures across the country. We sat down with Mel to hear what makes an Outback Spirit experience truly stand apart.

Why should people book a tour with Outback Spirit?

They travel to the most remarkable locations in vehicles that have literally been designed to give each guest a spacious leather seat and unobstructed window view.

The crew are so passionate and educated that you’ll walk away with incredible memories and so much knowledge.

Being all-inclusive is also such a bonus. From wine and beer with dinner to multiple scenic flights, we like to think we’ve covered it all!

What is one thing guests can expect on a Kimberley tour that they won’t get with other tour operators?

As if experiencing the nearby Mitchell Falls isn’t spectacular enough, guests are always wowed when they arrive at the Ngauwudu Safari Lodge.

It’s an Outback Spirit exclusive property and one of only two permanent camps in the region, but the only one to offer luxurious ‘safari suites’ and a private swimming hole surrounded by native palms. This Lodge holds a special place in my heart and once you stay there, you’ll realise why.

I can’t give too much away, it’s more a feeling that you are in such a special place.

Describe a typical day for guests staying at the exclusive lodges in Arnhem Land

There will be a beautiful breakfast prepared by our chefs before the adventure begins for the day.

On the Wetlands & Wildlife tour guests will visit a Cultural Centre, embark on a fishing adventure, enjoy crocodile and bird watching, and tuck into a packed picnic lunch filled with fresh, local delicacies.

After plenty of included, optional activities there will be time to freshen up and enjoy canapes with beverages with your fellow travellers before sitting down to a chef prepared dinner and witnessing out of this world sunsets.

Australians love road tripping, so what makes a Red Centre tour with Outback Spirit better than a self-drive adventure?

Our guides have been accredited by the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and are so knowledgeable about the rich, cultural history. You will never learn this information without their expertise.

The tour itself ticks every box: culture, landscape, history, art, beautiful meals and accommodation.

The friends you’ll meet along the journey, the laughs, the incredible sights and sounds – Outback Spirit has it all.

The value of this tour with all its inclusions is outstanding and no need to worry about fuel, mechanical issues, or directions.

What are some common misconceptions about the tours and/or lodges?

Although we ask our guests to have a base level of fitness, there is always the opportunity to opt-out of walks that may be too strenuous.

The other misconception is the idea of staying in tents. Some of our accommodation is in ‘tents’, but they are luxurious with bathrooms, amenities, and queen beds.

It’s such a beautiful experience sleeping at our Lodges in the most remote places.

Do you have any memorable stories from guests or staff that you can share with us?

I think the standout is the overall guest experience.

Seeing them walk away with absolute gratitude for the experience you have helped shape, the look of bewilderment and wonder when they are served 5* quality meals in the middle of the bush, the smiles and accomplishment of completing a hike, or watching guests see the colours of the country come alive.

Being part of that journey is so special. The landscape speaks for itself; no words can really justify how awe inspiring this country  is.
