ATIA has announced the first major initiative of its new corporate agreement with Japan’s Fukushima prefecture, offering three travel industry members the opportunity to join a hosted familiarisation trip to the region in November.

The five-night famil, departing November 3 and returning November 9, will be led by ATIA Director of Membership and Industry Affairs, Richard Taylor.

“I’m really excited that this partnership with Fukushima brings such a benefit to our members,” said Mr Taylor.

“We’re looking to bring along three individuals from ATIA-accredited businesses that want to better understand this region and promote it to travellers who are increasingly looking for a trip to Japan that ventures beyond the ordinary.”

Participants will meet with local government officials, gain insights into Fukushima’s tourism development and experience first-hand what the prefecture offers Australian travellers.

Fukushima will cover international return flights, transport, accommodation and meals for the duration of the trip, with members covering personal spending, insurance and incidental costs.

The famil reflects growing demand among Australian travellers for authentic experiences that extend beyond Japan’s traditional tourism hotspots.

The competition is open to individuals from ATIA-accredited businesses, who will be asked to submit a short application explaining why they should be chosen. Entries close on September 30.
