Norfolk Island’s legendary Fish Fry has been delighting visitors for more than 40 years – and last month a group of nine Travellers Choice members discovered exactly why this event continues to captivate.
Perched on a dramatic clifftop, the agents watched the sun slip into the horizon before sampling a spread of local delicacies, from Pilhi (a savoury banana slice) to home-made coconut bread. The evening was brought to life by the island’s vibrant Baunti Byuutis dance group.
Ben Apsey from Global Travel Co described the occasion as a standout.
“Enjoying freshly caught Red Emperor on a clifftop while Polynesian dancers perform at sunset is a truly memorable way to experience Norfolk Island’s culture and hospitality,” he said.
The famil, hosted by Norfolk Select founder David Bantoft, showcased a range of activities offered by local operator Pinetree Tours. Highlights included the Convict Settlement Tour and a Progressive Dinner, where agents were welcomed into three Norfolk family homes.
Apsey admitted he was surprised by how much the island had to offer.
“It’s a hidden gem and the perfect holiday option for couples, families and retirees wanting a South Pacific escape without the long-haul flight.”
For Jonty Southam from Home and Afar Travel, it was Norfolk’s natural beauty that stole the show.
“From the moment I saw the island from our plane window I was shocked at the incredible colours,” she said. “The lush, vibrant greens and the crystal-clear blue waters were spectacular. Norfolk’s natural beauty truly took me by surprise.”
