A new study by pet airline, SKYEPETS, has identified the places our Aussie fluffy expats are moving to in 2025, plus the countries that are easiest for pet access.
Analysing search data, the study found that New Zealand leads the way as the most sought-after pet expat hotspot for Australians, followed by Canada and Japan.
The research also found that Australia ranks as the number one sought-after pet expat spot globally, with more global searchers looking to move their pet to Australia than anywhere else in the world.
“Moving abroad with a pet can feel overwhelming, but the reality is that some countries make it surprisingly straightforward,” said Joanna Maddison, founder of SKYEPETS.
“At SKYEPETS, we want to empower pet owners with reliable information so they can plan with confidence and keep their companions by their side wherever life takes them.”
To discover the countries that are easiest to migrate to with a pet, the study analysed veterinary, travel and import requirements – including medical tests, quarantine periods, breed bans, microchip and import documentation requirements. It then rated them based on an overall complexity score system.
With a low complexity score of four, Argentina ranks as the world’s easiest destination for relocating pets, thanks to no quarantine, no mandatory microchip and only a standard rabies vaccination waiting period.
Canada, Albania and Greece follow closely, offering straightforward entry with no quarantine and no titre testing (blood tests), though some provincial breed restrictions apply.
