A new adventure tourism experience has launched in West Bali, giving travellers another reason to explore one of the island’s least visited regions. The Gelar River Adventure, based in the village of Batuagung in Jembrana Regency, has recently opened to visitors.
The experience offers guided river rafting along the Gelar River, taking guests through a mix of fast moving rapids and calmer stretches surrounded by dense greenery and rural landscapes. It is designed to appeal to adventure seekers looking for something beyond Bali’s more established tourist hubs.
West Bali is known for its quieter atmosphere and natural attractions, yet it often sits outside the typical travel itineraries of international visitors. The launch of this new rafting experience is expected to help diversify tourism in the region and encourage travellers to spend more time exploring the western side of the island.
Across the island, Bali offers a wide range of adventure activities for visitors looking to add adrenaline to their itinerary. Popular options include white water rafting on the Ayung and Telaga Waja rivers, sunrise trekking on Mount Batur, canyoning through waterfalls in central Bali and surfing at beaches such as Uluwatu, Canggu and Medewi. Diving and snorkelling remain major drawcards, with sites around Nusa Penida, Amed and Menjangan Island offering encounters with colourful marine life.
The rafting routes on the Gelar River vary in length, with options ranging from shorter trips of around an hour to longer journeys covering more than ten kilometres of river. This allows visitors to choose an experience that suits both their schedule and comfort level, whether they are first time rafters or more experienced adventurers.
Located within easy reach of West Bali National Park and the ferry port at Gilimanuk, the Gelar River Adventure adds another outdoor activity to the region’s growing list of attractions. As interest in nature based and active travel continues to rise, the new river rafting experience is set to become a standout addition to West Bali’s tourism offerings.
