South African Tourism (SAT) has appointed tourism marketing agency Gate 7 as its Australasian PR and communications representatives.

The move will see Gate 7 work alongside the local SAT team to drive awareness, consideration and visitation to South Africa from the Australasian markets.

The agency will also help showcase South Africa’s breadth of experiences – from sunrise safaris and dramatic landscapes to world-class food and wine, coastal escapes and vibrant city culture.

“Australasia remains a highly engaged long-haul market for South Africa and a key strategic priority for us globally,” said Gcobani Mancotywa, Regional General Manager Asia, Australasia and the Middle East, South African Tourism.

“At the heart of our approach is storytelling, sharing the real, human moments that define a journey through South Africa.

“Through our global platform, ‘South Africa Awaits: Come Find Your Joy,’ we invite travellers not just to visit, but to experience the stories behind our landscapes, our people and our culture.”

Australian arrivals in 2025 were up 23.2% year-on-year and Gate 7 will build on this momentum by strengthening SAT’s presence across the country and deepening engagement with media, trade and consumers to drive incremental visitation into 2026 and beyond.

A key focus will be highlighting ease of access, with convenient direct flights from Sydney and Perth, as well as one-stop connections from across Australia.

With strong connectivity across the globe, South Africa is an appealing option for travellers seeking seamless long-haul journeys, with the opportunity to incorporate a stopover in Johannesburg, a dynamic gateway city known for its art, history and emerging food scene.

“South Africa is on the bucket list for so many across Australia and New Zealand, and we are proud to be working with the team at South African Tourism to represent such a dynamic and rewarding destination,” said Jo Palmer, Founder & Managing Director of Gate 7.

“Whether it’s spotting wildlife on safari, exploring neighbourhoods in Cape Town or connecting with local culture, South Africa offers depth, diversity and exceptional value.

“We look forward to bringing these stories to life in a way that feels inspiring, relevant and within reach for travellers across the region.”
