Bunnik Tours, in partnership with Emirates, recently led a group of nine Australian travel agents on an immersive educational trip to Egypt – the tour company’s first agent famil to the region in eight years.

The eight-day itinerary offered a condensed version of Bunnik’s popular Highlights of Egypt tour and was designed to showcase the operator’s expertise and passion for the destination. Bunnik Tours is widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading Middle East specialists, with the three founding Bunniks having collectively travelled to Egypt more than 50 times.

Kicking off in Cairo, the group visited the iconic Great Pyramids of Giza and enjoyed a memorable dining experience at the 9 Pyramids Lounge, which boasts sweeping views of the ancient wonders – a highlight included in all Bunnik Egypt tours.

The group also enjoyed a guided tour of the Grand Egyptian Museum, now the largest archaeological museum in the world, featuring over 100,000 artefacts.

From Cairo, agents travelled south to the magnificent temples of Abu Simbel, a UNESCO World Heritage site, before returning to Aswan to embark on a three-night cruise down the Nile aboard the Mövenpick MS Lily. Onboard, the group enjoyed a lively galabaya party and stops at the temples of Kom Ombo and Edfu.

Further highlights included a visit to the Valley of the Kings – with entry into the Tomb of Tutankhamun – and a special night-time visit to the atmospheric Luxor Temple. An early morning hot air balloon flight over Luxor’s West Bank proved to be a standout experience.

Bunnik Tours Business Development Manager Sally-Anne Matthews, who hosted the famil, said the journey reminded agents why Egypt remains a firm favourite among Australian travellers.

“Egypt is an incredible destination,” said Matthews. “There were so many ‘pinch me’ moments, from standing before the Great Pyramids of Giza to sailing down the Nile. The hot air balloon ride was a definite highlight – truly unforgettable.”

She described one particularly moving moment at Abu Simbel, where their local guide Bassem led the group to the temple with their eyes closed for a dramatic reveal.

“There was this collective silence when we opened our eyes – it was powerful, emotional and one of those travel moments that stays with you for life.”
The famil was made possible with support from Emirates, whose flights via Dubai to Cairo offered agents a firsthand experience of the airline’s seamless connections and premium service.

Matthews added that the trip had been a huge success: “The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s not only strengthened our relationships with trade partners – it’s reignited their passion for Egypt and shown them the Bunnik difference.”
