Intrepid Travel has launched an emergency appeal for those affected by the Colombia earthquake.
Promoted through its not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, the appeal will support communities impacted by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake.
The Intrepid Foundation will match donations to the appeal up to $30,000, with 100% of funds raised going directly to local relief efforts.
Donations will support essential medical supplies and emergency care, food and accommodation for volunteer medical staff and aviation fuel to transport medical teams and supplies to affected communities.
The appeal has been established in partnership with Colombia-based NGO Patrulla Aérea Civil Colombiana (PAC), which is providing on-the-ground support to communities affected by the earthquake.
PAC delivers free medical services to remote communities across Colombia and has access to volunteer pilots, medical professionals and aircraft, enabling it to respond quickly to urgent needs.
“Thousands of people across Western Colombia, including Cali, Pereira, Quibdó and Chocó Department are facing loss, uncertainty and urgent needs – especially access to medical care,” said Hernan Acevedo, General Manager, Colombia, Intrepid Travel.
“In moments like this, solidarity can make an immediate and meaningful difference. We are asking for your help, by donating if you are able, or by sharing the appeal with your networks.”
Intrepid has confirmed that all travellers and staff in Colombia are safe and trips continue to operate.
Groups currently travelling in Western Colombia are being rerouted away from affected areas and provided with alternative itineraries and inclusions.
Intrepid intends to resume trips in affected regions as soon as it is safe and practical to do so, recognising the important role tourism plays in supporting local communities and livelihoods during the recovery.
“By giving to this appeal, the international travel community can directly contribute to the humanitarian relief efforts, supplying immediate medical needs to communities impacted by this devastating earthquake, while supporting a locally led NGO that is deeply rooted in the community and trusted by the local people,” said Biheng Zhang, General Manager of The Intrepid Foundation.
Intrepid has operated in Colombia since 2019, with eight trips across the country and a local office in Bogotá employing eight full-time team members. The Intrepid Foundation has partnered with PAC for the past three years.
