The announcement comes as QantasLink relaunches two routes out of Hobart, with flights to Perth restarting last month and flights to Canberra set to take off later this month.
These three routes will boost Qantas Group capacity by more than 76,000 seats a year in and out of the Tasmanian capital, supporting tourism and providing more travel options for residents.
Taking off from December 2 until April 21, 2026, Jetstar’s new seasonal service from Hobart (pictured above) to Newcastle will operate three times a week using Airbus A320 aircraft.
With more than 22,000 new low-cost seats on the route this season, customers can travel seamlessly between Tasmania’s historic capital and surrounding wilderness and the NSW Hunter region’s beaches and renowned wineries.
To celebrate the new route, Jetstar is offering sale fares from just $59 one-way, with the 24-hour sale starting at 11am (AEDT) today at jetstar.com.
“This direct service opens the door to a significant catchment of 1.4 million people across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Valley,” said Jane Howlett, Tasmanian Minister for Tourism and Hospitality.
“This is a regional market that has already shown strong appetite for what Tasmania has to offer.”
The new service comes at a transformational time for Newcastle Airport. Its new international terminal will unlock opportunities for the region, welcoming more visitors and turbocharging local tourism and trade.
“It’s proof we’re delivering the airport this region deserves – one that makes travel easy and opens doors at home and abroad,” commented Linc Horton, Newcastle Airport CEO.
# Meanwhile Aussies can lock in an escape to Japan and South Korea with Jetstar offering close to 25,000 discounted fares to Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul from $179 one-way.
Travel dates vary per route but include mid-November 2025 to late August 2026.
The sale runs from midday today and ends at 11.59pm (AEDT) on October 12, unless sold out prior. Fares and full conditions are available at Jetstar.com.
