Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia will reopen next year following a refurbishment valued at more than $5 million.
The work will introduce redesigned wilderness tents, upgraded communal areas and an expanded food and beverage offering.
The eco lodge, located within Cape Range National Park near the UNESCO World Heritage listed Ningaloo Reef, will retain its 16 tent format while adding private ensuite bathrooms, louvred windows and refreshed interiors inspired by the colours of the surrounding reef and coastline.
Journey Beyond said the project would also transform the central sundeck and lounge, reception and dining areas, with a new communal dining space, banquette seating and an all inclusive open bar.
Chris Tallent, Journey Beyond CEO, said the refurbishment was designed to improve the guest experience while remaining sensitive to the surrounding environment.
“The new look and feel remains true to the natural beauty of Sal Salis, with a refurbishment that is sensitive to the environment and designed to sit harmoniously within its surroundings,” Mr Tallent said.
Woods Bagot is leading the design, using materials including teak, reclaimed jarrah, woven rope and metalwork, with a colour palette influenced by the coastline, land and sky.
The culinary offering will also be refreshed, focusing on seasonal produce and Western Australian wines, beers and other beverages.
Guests will continue to have access to guided sunrise walks in Cape Range National Park, snorkelling along Ningaloo Reef, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. Optional whale shark and humpback whale swims can also be arranged.
Bookings are now open for the 2027 season with the lodge set to open next March.
