A shortfall in airlift and the recent natural disaster in Hawaii is behind a drop of just over ten percent in visitor numbers from Australia, according to recent figures.

The data was discussed at an Aloha Down Under Lunch in Sydney on Monday.

There was a visitor decrease of -10.2%, while airlift was down -2.3% for January through until July 2024.

However, the good news is that Oceania has the highest overall spend out of all markets visiting Hawaii.

Visitors from the region have a daily spend of US$297, and an average length of stay 8.8 days.

Also, 55.4% of tourists are repeat visitors.

And, 1 in 5 visit a neighbouring island, 6.41% to Kaua‘i, 8.90% to Island of Hawai‘i, 8.98% to Maui which is 36% down year over year.
