France, Italy and Slovenia are leading the European walking destinations booked by Australians in 2026, according to new data from self-guided walking specialist On Foot Holidays.
The Dordogne Valley in France has emerged as the most popular route among Australian travellers, followed by Cilento National Park and Tuscany in Italy, Slovenia and the Amalfi Coast.
The operator’s walking holidays are designed for independent travellers, with accommodation arranged in local inns, farm stays, family-run hotels and B&Bs. Luggage is transferred between properties each day, leaving guests to walk with a day pack.

The seven-night Dordogne Valley itinerary begins in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne and finishes in Belcastel, travelling through rural landscapes and medieval villages. The recommended walking months are April, May, June, September and October.
Priced from £1,470 per person twin share, the itinerary includes seven nights’ of accommodation, seven breakfasts, four picnic lunches, five dinners, maps and directions, selected taxi transfers and daily luggage transfers.
First-time customers can also save £50 per person on any walking holiday booked by November 30 and completed by December 31, 2027, using the code INTRO50.
