Indonesia AirAsia announced today it will commence flying from Melbourne to Bali from March 21.

The daily services will be aboard an Airbus A320 and will add an extra 130,000 seats annually.

Indonesia AirAsia plans to stand out from an already competitive field with special promotional fares set to be some of the cheapest in the market.

Indonesia is Australia’s number one international destination with more than 1.7 million outbound travellers annually.  It is also one of the fastest growth leisure markets from Melbourne with outbound traveller numbers to September 2025 up 34% on the same period in 2019.

“Indonesia AirAsia’s fares will no doubt be competitive in this market, which is great news for holidaymakers looking to make their money fly further,” said Jim Parashos, Melbourne Airport Chief of Aviation.

“Bali is the third busiest route out of Melbourne behind only Singapore and Auckland, so it’s great to see more choice coming into the market which will continue to put downward pressure on fares.”

Acting CEO of AirAsia Indonesia Captain Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman said the new service would seamlessly connect travellers to major destinations across the AirAsia network.

“This strategic launch strengthens Indonesia AirAsia’s presence in Australia and will provide more flexible and value driven travel options for Australians,” he added.

“While Bali is an Australian favourite, AirAsia’s extensive network and Fly-Thru service opens up opportunities for passengers to connect seamlessly to major destinations such as Phuket, Bangkok, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur without the need to collect baggage during transit.

“Travellers can also choose to explore more of what Indonesia has to offer with a wide range of domestic destinations.”
