Food lovers and hikers alike have reason to celebrate: Catalonia in north-eastern Spain has been named the World Gastronomy Region for 2025, and On Foot Holidays is serving up a delicious way to explore it.

The new title, awarded by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism, honours Catalonia’s sustainable, flavour-filled food scene—think cheeses, olives, wine, fresh produce, and famed cured meats.

To mark the occasion, European tour operator On Foot Holidays is offering a self-guided, eight-night inn-to-inn walking holiday through the beautiful Priorat region, with an itinerary that blends cultural discovery, wine tasting, and hearty Catalan meals. Hikers will journey between the ancient abbeys of Poblet and Escaladei, past rock pools, Neolithic art, and hillside vineyards, while enjoying home-style hospitality and rustic regional fare.

The package includes eight nights’ accommodation with breakfast, five dinners, six picnic lunches, daily luggage transfers, and a detailed walkers’ pack with maps and local insights. Guests need only carry a day pack as they walk 4 to 6.5 hours per day through rolling terrain and medieval villages.

A highlight for many is sampling botifarra (Catalan pork sausage), washed down with a local red and a side of almond-picada sauce. With numerous charming eateries and wine bars along the trail, it’s a journey designed for the tastebuds as much as the feet.

Prices start from £1340 per person (around A$2790), with walks available April to October (excluding August). On Foot Holidays is also offering a 10% saving when two hikes are booked for the same trip (use code PAIR10), and a £40 discount per room for guests who opt for a digital guide instead of printed materials.

With 37 self-guided European walks to choose from, On Foot Holidays lets you set your own pace—while they handle the logistics.
