The disaster was triggered by torrential rains, with five people still missing. The cost of the damage is likely to run into several hundred thousand dollars.

The flooding struck nine cities and districts, inundating more than 120 neighbourhoods and causing multiple landslides.

Rivers burst their banks, sweeping away homes, damaging infrastructure and leaving roads blocked.

In Denpasar, several buildings collapsed during the downpour and many areas were submerged under floodwaters and debris.

Major roads, including routes leading to Ngurah Rai International Airport, remain severely affected – some sections were impassable until receding waters allowed limited access.

Authorities have relocated more than 500 people to emergency shelters located in schools and mosques.

Rescue teams have been mobilised to search for the missing, clear mud and debris, and restore basic services.

While the worst of the rainfall has eased, recovery efforts are hampered by lingering infrastructure damage and disrupted utilities in many districts.

In neighbouring East Nusa Tenggara, the rainfall also caused severe flooding, landslides and damage to bridges, farmland and government buildings. At least five people have been confirmed dead and multiple others are missing there as well.
