Q: The distinctive design of The Cali Villas is one of the reasons for its success. What can we expect at The Huntley?

A: The Huntley will still have our signature design approach, that mid-century modern feel that people have loved at The Cali, but with a slightly different twist.

We’ve taken everything we’ve learned about what our guests respond to and evolved it.

There’s a bit more focus on wellness spaces, with a neutral palette that creates this really calming atmosphere.

We’ve been working with the same craftspeople from Java who made our custom furniture for The Cali, but we’re introducing some new elements that feel fresh while still being distinctly ‘us.’

It’s about creating these beautiful, considered spaces that photograph incredibly well but are also genuinely comfortable to live in.

Q: What kind of activities and facilities will be available at the new property?

A: We’re really excited about the wellness offerings at The Huntley. We’ll have on-site spa treatments, ice baths and a more comprehensive gym setup than what we have at The Cali.

Having seen how our guests use our spaces, we wanted to create more opportunities for that restorative experience that people are looking for in Bali.

But it’s not just about the facilities, it’s about how our team delivers the experience. We’ll still offer that same personalised service, just with these added wellness touchpoints.

And of course, the private pools that our guests love at The Cali will feature at The Huntley as well, along with an expanded food and beverage offering.

Q: You must also be extremely proud that the new property will offer yet more job opportunities to locals.

A: Absolutely, this is honestly one of the most rewarding parts of our expansion. We’re growing from 25 to 75 staff, which means creating 50 new jobs in the community.

What I’m particularly proud of is that we’re promoting many of our current team members into leadership positions at The Huntley. We’ve invested in their development with English classes and training, and now they’re stepping up into these new roles.

Our retention rate has been incredible – we’ve only lost three staff members in four years – and I think that speaks to the workplace culture we’ve created.

These aren’t just jobs; they’re genuine career paths and watching our team grow professionally has been one of the most fulfilling parts of this journey.

Q: Why do you think there is such a demand these days for luxury, boutique accommodation?

A: I think people are looking for experiences that feel both special and authentic.

The feedback we get constantly is that guests want the amenities and service of a luxury hotel but in a more intimate setting where they’re not just another room number.

Since having kids ourselves, we’ve really understood the appeal of private villa accommodation, having your own space and pool, but with the convenience of hotel services like room service and daily housekeeping.

Social media has definitely played a role too. People want spaces that reflect their personal style and photograph beautifully. But beyond the aesthetics, there’s this desire for genuine connection – both to the place you’re visiting and to the people hosting you.

That’s something we can offer that bigger hotels sometimes struggle with.

Q: Canggu has become one of Bali’s fastest-growing travel destinations. What are some of the reasons for this?

A: Canggu offers this perfect balance that’s hard to find elsewhere in Bali.

You’ve got amazing beach access and surf breaks, but also this incredible food scene with both local warungs and innovative restaurants. It’s got a more relaxed vibe than Seminyak but still plenty happening.

Q: Finally, why do you think Australians still have the pull to visit Bali?

A: For so many Australians, Bali isn’t just a holiday destination, it’s literally their happy place and they come back year after year.

You step off the plane and instantly feel this wonderful mix of excitement and peace that’s hard to find anywhere else.

What I adore about Bali is how it offers something for absolutely everyone. One trip you might be all about the surf and beach clubs in Canggu, the next you’re doing a wellness retreat in Ubud and then you’re exploring the incredible food scene in Uluwatu.

The pandemic really showed just how strong that Australian-Bali connection is, the moment borders reopened, Aussies were the first ones back. I honestly believe Bali will always have a special place in Australian hearts.
