AmaWaterways has unveiled plans for a major fleet expansion, announcing that eight new river ships will join its European orderbook by 2030. The move will see the line’s global fleet grow to more than 40 vessels, doubling its size since 2020, and underscoring surging demand for immersive river cruising experiences.
Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways, said the newbuilds were a direct response to market appetite.
“Our expanding fleet is a direct response to the strong demand from guests eager to discover river cruising and Europe’s beautiful rivers,” she said. “These new ships represent exciting opportunities for our valued travel advisor partners and us to grow together.”
Known for its carefully curated itineraries, AmaWaterways offers up to seven included excursions each day, ranging from cultural walking tours and scenic bike rides to wine tastings and unique local experiences such as truffle hunting in southern France.
Onboard, guests enjoy award-winning cuisine, wellness programmes led by dedicated hosts, and evening cultural performances, alongside leisure facilities such as pools, fitness rooms and spas. Select suites also feature butler service for an extra level of personalised care.
The line also partners with brands including Disney, Backroads and Smithsonian Journeys, offering tailored sailings for families, active travellers and cultural explorers. It consistently reports one of the highest repeat guest rates in river cruising (a testament to its high-touch service and product delivery).
With this latest order, AmaWaterways reinforces its position as a leader in Europe’s river cruise market. Details on the new ships will be released in the coming months.
