Q: Why was it important for the future of your business to be part of an agency network?

A: I’ve been a travel agent for more than 20 years and I’ve run my own business since 2019, so I’m an experienced, confident and independent operator.

Nevertheless, it can be quite isolating working alone and more recently I’ve felt that my business would benefit from better support than I’ve enjoyed in the past.

In part this was sparked by the Middle East conflict. During periods like this I think it’s natural for independent agents to feel vulnerable and to look a little more closely at the support – or lack of support – they receive.

During COVID, and again in the wake of the Gulf conflict, Travellers Choice has really distinguished itself by the way it has been there for its members.

Q: What were the deciding factors that made you pick Travellers Choice?

A: It’s great to read about how a group is supporting its members, but it’s particularly powerful when you hear those reports validated by colleagues who you trust.

In my case, Michelle Barker from Embark Travel in New South Wales told me how impressed she was with the support she had received since joining Travellers Choice back in January 2025.

Michelle is someone whose judgement I trust and sure enough, even before I officially came onboard, it was apparent that there was a real care factor. Within a week of joining, I had enjoyed more support than I had in years.

It was refreshing to be part of a group that is genuinely invested in my success.

Q: How do you think the travel industry is looking at present?

A: Recent global events, particularly the ongoing instability in the Middle East, have reinforced the value of using a professional travel advisor.

When travel plans are disrupted, clients appreciate having someone in their corner to provide personalised, timely support and advocate on their behalf.

While uncertainty remains in some parts of the world, I’m seeing growing confidence from travellers who are already committing to their 2027 holiday plans.

Q: What are the major challenges facing agents and the industry?

A: Alongside geopolitical uncertainty, I believe one of the biggest challenges facing travel advisors is adapting to the rapid rise of artificial intelligence.

While some travellers may choose to rely on AI for planning, it also presents a significant opportunity for advisors.

The key is demonstrating the value that only an experienced travel professional can provide – personalised advice, destination expertise, industry connections and support when things don’t go to plan.

At the same time, embracing AI as a business tool can improve efficiency and allow advisors to spend more time delivering exceptional client service.

Q: What is it about the travel industry that you love so much?

A: For many people, a holiday is the highlight of their year and I love being part of creating those experiences.

Helping clients turn their travel dreams into reality is incredibly rewarding, but my favourite moment is always the welcome home call.

Hearing their stories, favourite memories and knowing I’ve played a small part in an unforgettable journey is what continues to motivate me.

Q: What plans do you have for the future of your business?

A: I’m looking forward to continuing to grow my expertise in the cruise and adventure travel sectors.

Experiencing more products first hand allows me to better match clients with the cruise line, expedition or tour that best suits their travel style.

Having travelled with many of the world’s leading cruise lines, I can confidently provide recommendations based on personal experience rather than brochures alone.

Q: Do you have any exciting travel plans that you can share with us?

A: Next month I’ll be sailing the Kimberley coast aboard Le Jacques-Cartier with Ponant. The Kimberley is a true bucket-list destination for many Australians and I’m excited to experience my first small-ship expedition cruise with Ponant, in one of the world’s most spectacular and remote wilderness regions.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to further expand my first hand knowledge of expedition cruising for my clients.
