This year’s festival offers a carefully curated selection of nine feature films, 11 documentaries and 13 short films – each one offering bold perspectives, compelling storytelling and deep insight into South Africa’s creative brilliance, cultural richness and social complexity.

SAFF 2025 highlights include award-winning and critically acclaimed titles such as Old Righteous Blues, The Last Ranger, The Showerhead, Spud, The Friendship Bench, Shap Shap, and Kwiksilwers.

The festival, which runs from May 4 to May 31, also includes Q&As, filmmaker appearances, and exclusive bonus content.

More than just entertainment, SAFF is a festival with a conscience. All profits go to Education without Borders (EwB), a not-for-profit that supports literacy, leadership and mentorship programs for disadvantaged youth in South Africa’s Western Cape.

“SAFF truly represents the soul of a nation. And in our 7th year we’re doing it with a larger line-up of stellar films than ever before. We can’t wait to share the gems – and a selection of accompanying bonus content – with you!” said Collins Rex, Festival Director.

The South African Film Festival opens with Oscar buzz on May 4 with an in-cinema double bill featuring the highly entertaining Old Righteous Blues (South Africa’s official selection for the Oscars) and the Oscar-nominated for Best Short Film, The Last Ranger in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
