This is according to new research from YouGov, released by Virgin Australia, and said to involve 3.3million young Australians.
The national survey conducted by YouGov of more than 1,120 Australians also revealed that almost two-thirds (63%) of Gen Z feel physically or mentally exhausted, even after taking time out to rest.
“Gen Z are running on empty – nine in ten say they feel burnt out,” said Milly Rose Bannister, founder of youth mental health non-profit ALLKND.
“Even with attempts at balance, the many layers of life keep piling on. What that tells us is that Gen Z are self-aware and trying to switch off, but the constant pressures mean the recovery rarely sticks.”
In response to the survey results, Virgin Australia has partnered with Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) to launch a ‘Holiday Remedy Sale’, with fares from $45 one-way to Queensland.
“When young people are this overloaded, changing your environment, even for a few days, can be a genuine circuit-breaker. That’s what helps clear the brain fog, ease the pressure, and remind us what it feels like to come back to ourselves,” added Ms Bannister.
