Uniworld Boutique River Cruises has officially welcomed its newest Super Ship to the fleet, with S.S. Emilie christened in the heart of Amsterdam this week.
The ceremony was led by Ellen Bettridge, Uniworld CEO, who invited the ship’s godmother Julie Higgins and the ship’s captains to take part in the time-honoured tradition of breaking Champagne on the bow.
Ms Higgins joined the Uniworld family 22 years ago as a cabin stewardess aboard the River Princess and rose through the ranks to become Director of Hotel Operations and Uniworld’s global Sustainability Officer, adding ship godmother to her list of titles.
S.S. Emilie takes her name from Emilie Flöge, the beloved muse of master Viennese painter Gustav Klimt, and the ship’s décor pays tribute to his signature style throughout.
Dramatic colour hues, Art Nouveau elements and a three-metre portrait of Flöge in the ship’s atrium set the tone for a vessel that is as much a work of art as it is a river cruise ship.
Staterooms aboard S.S. Emilie feature European duvets, a pillow menu, individual thermostat air conditioning, Wi-Fi connected flat-screen TVs and marble bathrooms with Asprey bath and body products.
A standout feature is the ship’s interconnecting Grand Suites, which adjoin with Deluxe French Balcony staterooms to create a spacious two-bedroom suite option.

S.S. Emilie is currently sailing her inaugural ‘Tulips and Windmills’ cruise from Amsterdam to Antwerp, with eight days of included excursions.
