Aussies are falling in love with Hong Kong all over again, with the city recording a 32% year-on-year jump in Australian arrivals.

New figures from the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) show that visitor numbers have been climbing steadily through 2024, with a strong surge continuing into early 2025.

What’s behind the boom? A jam-packed line-up of major events has played a big part. Hong Kong’s ‘Super March’ festival — featuring global drawcards like LIV Golf, Art Basel Hong Kong, and the iconic Hong Kong Sevens — attracted crowds from around the world. The famous Sevens tournament also made its debut at the brand-new Kai Tak Sports Park, adding even more excitement.

Demand is so strong that it’s currently outpacing direct flight capacity. But good news for travellers: more seats are on the way. Cathay Pacific runs daily flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth; Qantas flies daily from Sydney and Melbourne; and from 21 June 2025, Hong Kong Airlines will launch a daily service from Sydney, offering even more choice on this ever-popular route.

Karen Macmillan, HKTB Director for Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, said Australians were embracing everything Hong Kong has to offer.

“Hong Kong is back in a big way,” she said. “From world-class events to incredible new infrastructure, Aussies are clearly loving the energy, flavour and spirit of the city once again.”
