I arrived in Alexandria by train, so the Archer Hotel’s location in Old Town was a real advantage – just a five-minute walk from the Amtrak station.
Even with the summer heat, the short distance made for an easy walk, so I didn’t need to organise a taxi or rideshare.
The surrounding streets were filled with historic buildings, giving a strong sense of place on arrival. It felt like a good introduction to the area.
Once inside, the lobby was calm and organised, and staff at reception greeted me straight away, which helped make check-in quick and simple.
Archer Hotel Old Town Alexandria combines a boutique feel with modern facilities. There are 107 rooms in total, including 16 suites, so it’s not an overwhelming property. It also offers indoor and outdoor space for meetings and events.
Importantly, the hotel has very comfortable beds. The rooms also have Frette bathrobes and slippers, a laptop-size safe, LATHER-branded bath amenities and a Nespresso coffee machine.
The hotel also includes complimentary Wi-Fi, business services and a fitness studio.
AKB, the on-site gathering spot, serves breakfast, happy hour drinks and evening snacks, along with espresso coffee.
Concierge and bell services are available, as well as valet parking for $US25 daily or $US40 overnight.
A mini market in the lobby sells small snacks and beverages, and the hotel is dog-friendly for pets under 50 pounds (about 22kg), with a $US150 fee. There is no charge for service dogs.
My room was ready when I arrived and had a couple of welcoming touches -complimentary FIJI Water and a packet of local caramels had been left out, which was nice.
There was also a small fridge in the room, which worked well for drinks and snacks, though anything larger – like a full-size water bottle – wouldn’t fit.
Staff were excellent throughout my stay. Everyone I interacted with at the front desk was helpful, clear with their advice and made the effort to be welcoming without being overly formal. They offered assistance with local directions and were always easy to approach.
There’s a shaded courtyard area on the property that’s open to guests – I spent a little time there in the morning going over my day’s plans with a coffee in hand. It was quiet and felt like a good spot to escape the sun.
Although the hotel is on a main road, I didn’t find it noisy inside. Rideshares found the entrance easily and, as mentioned, valet parking is available if needed.
Overall, the location and staff were the highlights and I’d stay again for a short visit to Alexandria.
