Kitirua Plains Lodge is a striking new property in Kenya’s Amboseli that will open on June 1.
Set on a 50-hectare private concession bordering Amboseli National Park, with Mount Kilimanjaro commanding the horizon, Kitirua Plains Lodge is the latest expression of A&K Sanctuary’s design-led approach to safari hospitality.
Located in the heart of elephant country, the lodge’s suites provide a front-row seat to one of Africa’s most memorable landscapes, where herds of elephants roam freely through the wilderness.
Thirteen standalone suites comprise eleven suites positioned to frame views across the plains towards Kilimanjaro’s snow-ringed peak and two, two-bedroom configurations.
Raised wooden pathways meander from the main areas to well-spaced suites, preserving the sense of an uninterrupted landscape while ensuring maximum privacy.
The wellness area features treatment rooms edged by a glass facade that frames the landscape, while an outdoor yoga deck and gym overlook the plains, connecting guests to their surroundings rather than isolating them from it.
The property is 100 per cent solar powered, while water is supplied from an on-site borehole and greywater is recycled for irrigation. General waste recycling and composting are integrated into operations from the outset.
The property marks Abercrombie & Kent’s return to Amboseli, where in 1962 Geoffrey Kent brought his very first clients and pioneered the modern luxury safari.
That trip established the blueprint for Kent’s ethos of adventure by day, luxury by night. Six decades later, Kitirua Plains Lodge honours that legacy while reimagining what contemporary safari architecture can be when design, sustainability and community are the grounding principles.
The latest unveiling follows recent openings at Gorilla Forest Lodge in Uganda and Baines’ Lodge in Botswana.
Kitirua Plains Lodge joins A&K Sanctuary’s established Kenyan portfolio alongside Olonana Lodge in the Maasai Mara and Tambarare Camp in Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
