Malaysia Airlines has become the first carrier in South-East Asia to introduce Amadeus Travel Ready, a cutting-edge solution designed to digitalise and verify travel documents at check-in.
The technology enables passengers to upload and validate passports, visas and health documents during online or mobile check-in, reducing congestion at airport counters and allowing smoother passenger flows through every stage of the journey.
Clarence Lee Chin Ken, Group Chief Digital Officer at Malaysia Aviation Group, said the move marks a significant step forward in improving the customer experience.
“Traditionally, travellers have to present the same identity documents repeatedly, at check-in, baggage drop, security and boarding, creating manual checks and long queues. By digitalising identity verification for our customers with Amadeus Travel Ready, we are enabling a seamless journey and laying the foundation for a fully biometric future,” he said.
The integration aligns with IATA’s One ID initiative, which promotes the use of contactless and biometric technologies to further streamline the passenger journey.
Javier Laforgue, Executive Vice President, Travel Unit & Managing Director, Asia Pacific at Amadeus, said Malaysia Airlines is leading the way in the region.
“As a first mover in South-East Asia with Amadeus Travel Ready, Malaysia Airlines will benefit from advanced biometric enrolment capabilities, ensuring a seamless and secure travel experience for its customers. This partnership demonstrates how innovation can enhance convenience and security for travellers.”
Malaysia Airlines, the national flag-carrier owned by Malaysia Airlines Berhad since 2015, is a member of the oneworld alliance and connects passengers to more than 900 destinations across 170 territories worldwide.
