Qatar Airways has just launched multiple daily services from Melbourne to its Doha hub, boosting travel options for Aussie passengers.

Adding to the increased capacity, Virgin Australia has also launched daily Melbourne-Doha services, completing its partnership rollout with Qatar Airways after successful launches from Sydney, Brisbane and Perth earlier this year. The services use Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and crew.

Under the partnership arrangement, passengers can book Virgin Australia flight codes but will travel on Qatar’s 777-300ER aircraft with Qatar Airways crew – effectively giving travellers more booking options on the same route.

The enhanced services expand Qatar Airways’ network to more than 170 destinations, offering particularly strong benefits for companies doing business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“Our new Melbourne–Doha service is a major milestone for Virgin Australia and for the millions of Australians who want more choice and value when travelling internationally,” said Dave Emerson, Virgin Australia Chief Executive Officer.

“Together with Qatar Airways, we’re able to offer competitive airfares between Australia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa, while creating new economic opportunities that will benefit tourism, trade and Australian jobs.”

“This launch reflects months of hard work from both teams and our shared commitment to giving Australians greater choice, better value and world-class premium service,” said Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer.

Small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) travel specialist Corporate Traveller says the increased frequency addresses a key gap in the market for companies requiring flexible international schedules and the hope of competition creating lower airfares, as witnessed elsewhere.

“This is brilliant news for our SME customers who’ve been asking for more flexibility on Europe and Middle East routes,” said Tom Walley, Australia-based Global Managing Director of Corporate Traveller.

“Having multiple departure times each day means business travellers can actually choose schedules that work for them, rather than being stuck with limited options.

“For businesses – particularly those in tech, resources and professional services – the expanded capacity means better connectivity to diverse international markets and more strategic options when planning global travel programmes.

“At the end of the day, this comes down to choice and convenience. Businesses want options that work for their needs and this expansion delivers exactly that.”

# Qatar Airways’ resumption flight to Canberra touched down today, officially marking the return of its daily service to the Australian capital via Melbourne.

The airline now operates a total Australian network of six key cities: Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra.

“This milestone represents our continued commitment to the Australian market and to connecting communities across the world,” said Mr Badr Mohammed Al-Meer.
