Construction of Oceania Sonata has reached a major milestone, with the new ship floated out at a shipyard in Italy ahead of its 2027 debut.
The vessel is the first of five ships planned for Oceania’s new Sonata Class. It will now move to the fitting out berth, where work will continue on interiors and onboard spaces.
Oceania Sonata will feature 695 rooms and suites and will be almost 30% larger than Oceania Allura, despite adding only 90 more guest accommodations.
One third of accommodation will be suites, including four, two-bedroom Owner’s Suites, a first for the cruise line.
Two new categories will also debut: Horizon Suites measuring more than 55 square metres and 45 square metre Penthouse Deluxe Suites.
Jason Montague, Oceania Cruises Chief Luxury Officer, said the float out marked an important step towards welcoming the ship’s first guests.
“As the first ship in our new Sonata Class, she represents the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the brand and a defining milestone in the continued evolution of Oceania Cruises,” Mr Montague said.
Dining will span 13 venues, including two new concepts, La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France and Nikkei Kitchen, alongside returning restaurants including Jacques, Red Ginger, Polo Grill and Toscana.
The ship will begin its inaugural season on August 7, 2027, with a 14-day voyage from Rome to Trieste, visiting Malta, Greece, Montenegro and Croatia.
Its first season will run through April 2028 and cover more than 90 destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America and the Panama Canal.
Further highlighted sailings include a seven-day Athens to Istanbul itinerary, a 16-day Los Angeles to Miami voyage with a daylight Panama Canal transit and a 10-day roundtrip Caribbean sailing from Miami.
Oceania Sonata will be followed by sister ship Oceania Arietta in 2029, with three further Sonata Class ships scheduled for 2032, 2035 and 2037.
