Thailand is stepping up efforts to future proof its tourism industry with the launch of a new national innovation platform developed by the National Innovation Agency (NIA) and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The initiative forms part of a broader reboot of the Amazing Thailand brand, aimed at reigniting global attention while responding to changing traveller behaviour, growing competition and rising expectations around digital convenience and experience led travel.

At the centre of the strategy is the Amazing Thailand Innovation Gadget platform, Thailand’s first centralised repository of tourism focused technologies and solutions.

Designed to support the shift towards Smart Tourism, the platform brings together tools covering the entire visitor journey, from trip planning and booking to experience personalisation and destination management.

The platform connects start ups, entrepreneurs, developers and creative talent, allowing tourism businesses and destinations to adopt technology that enhances engagement while remaining rooted in Thai culture and local identity.

NIA currently supports more than 80 tourism technology start ups operating across areas such as community based tourism, hospitality systems, urban mobility, social impact travel and customer journey management.

The move aligns Thailand with global tourism leaders that are successfully integrating culture and technology.

Countries such as Japan, South Korea and Spain have demonstrated how digital platforms, data driven planning and creative industries can transform tourism into a more immersive and sustainable economic driver.

According to NIA executive director Dr Krithpaka Boonfueng, the goal is not only to modernise tourism operations but to build a long term innovation ecosystem that delivers premium experiences, supports local communities and strengthens Thailand’s global competitiveness.

The strategy also reflects wider global trends. The World Travel and Tourism Council reports that the sector contributed $US 10.9 trillion to the global economy in 2024, supporting 357 million jobs.

Investment in TravelTech continues to grow, particularly in areas such as personalisation, artificial intelligence and sustainability.

By combining innovation, creativity and culture, NIA and TAT aim to position Thailand as a Global Innovation Tourism Hub, ensuring the Amazing Thailand brand remains relevant in a rapidly evolving travel landscape.
