The Lake has not completely filled to capacity since 1974 when it reached a record depth of six metres.
According to experts, this year’s flood is shaping up to reach a similar level – a sight to behold in the heart of the country’s most arid area.
Located approximately 700km north of Adelaide, Australia’s largest salt lake is transformed into a shimmering expanse of colour and life during the flooding phenomenon.
Floodwaters flowing from the Georgina and Diamantina rivers are already bringing with them new fish life and a teeming bird population of pelicans, silver gulls, banded stilts and gull-billed terns some from as far away as China and Japan.

Twice-daily guided field experiences bring the landscape to life, covering geology, wildlife, conservation and Indigenous cultural insights.
