“Jet lag can get to even the most seasoned traveller. It can make you feel tired and sluggish and make it difficult to sleep,” said Rebecca Swain, Sleep Expert from Winstonseds.com.

“The best way to overcome jet lag is to prioritise good sleep, drink plenty of water and adjust your routine to the new time zone. But if you need a helping hand, there are some interesting remedies from around the world to speed it up.”

Japan – Pickled Plums

Pickled plums (umeboshi) are widely used in Japan as a traditional remedy for ailments including fatigue. They also thought to give a natural energy boost and aid digestion. The citric acid and salt in pickled plums is believed to help combat exhaustion.

China- Reflexology

Reflexology is sometimes used as a jet lag remedy in China. The traditional Chinese practice involves applying pressure points on the feet believed to correspond to different organs and systems in the body. It can help with promoting relaxation and balancing the body’s energy.

Sweden – Forest Bathing

Forest bathing (skogsbada) can best be described as a slow walk in the woods where you focus on the sights, sounds, smells and textures of the forest. It’s thought to lower blood pressure and stress and improve overall wellbeing. Taking time to relax will help the body recover from jet lag faster.

Germany – Kneipp Hydrotherapy

This uses alternating hot and cold water to reset the body, improving circulation, boosting the immune system and promoting wellbeing. It’ll help the body adapt to the new time zones and can reduce the stress and anxiety linked to jet lag.

Morocco – Mint Tea

Mint tea can help relieve jet lag symptoms. It aids digestion, will promote relaxation and encourage sleep – all will help your body adjust to a new time zone.

Egypt – Black Seed Oil

Black seed oil could indirectly help ease jetlag. Studies suggest the oil or extracts of it can improve sleep quality and ease stress. Its anti-inflammatory properties can help with general wellbeing.

Brazil – Guaraná Elixir

Guaraná has a high caffeine content, reduces fatigue and improves alertness, making it a good choice if you’re struggling with jet lag.
