Air New Zealand has announced a ticket price hike across its domestic and international routes as jet fuel costs surge to record levels.

The airline said the increases are modest on domestic flights but more significant on long-haul routes, reflecting a global spike in fuel prices caused by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Fuel, which typically sits around US $85–$90 per barrel, has jumped to US $150–$200, squeezing airlines worldwide.

“This is a challenging period for the industry,” an Air New Zealand spokesperson said. “We’re adjusting fares to manage costs while keeping travel safe and reliable for our customers.”

The fare hike mirrors moves by other carriers, including Qantas and SAS, who are also passing rising fuel costs on to passengers. Analysts warn that further increases and potential schedule adjustments may follow if fuel prices remain volatile.

Passengers are being advised to book early and monitor fares, as the aviation sector navigates one of its most turbulent periods in years.
