Tourism Australia Managing Director, Phillipa Harrison, has announced she will step down from her role in August 2025, less than a year after being reappointed for a second five-year term. Harrison, who has been with the national tourism body since 2017, will leave to pursue a new opportunity overseas.

During her tenure as Managing Director, Harrison steered Tourism Australia through some of the sector’s most testing times, including the Black Summer bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under her leadership, the organisation recently celebrated a milestone with international visitor numbers surpassing eight million, signalling a full recovery to pre-pandemic levels.

Harrison’s departure marks the end of an era defined by resilience and creative leadership. Tourism Australia Chair, Penny Fowler AM, paid tribute to Harrison’s contributions, praising her vision for a sustainable and globally competitive tourism sector.

“Phillipa has led the team with integrity, passion, and a clear sense of purpose. Her focus on driving the recovery of Australia’s tourism industry and fostering strong partnerships has been truly impactful,” Fowler said.

The Tourism Australia board has commenced an international search for Harrison’s successor, with further announcements expected in the coming months.
