The 35-year-old man, who has not been identified, leapt into the sea from the 250,000-ton Icon of the Seas near San Salvador Island in the Bahamas.

Passengers who saw the man jump threw life rings into the water as crew aboard the Royal Caribbean vessel launched a search and rescue mission.

The man was recovered from the water about 30 minutes later but could not be revived.

It is alleged the man stabbed a 28-year-old woman multiple times in her upper body aboard the ship around 7:30 pm on Thursday. The victim was treated and remains in a stable condition.

“Our onboard security team responded to an incident involving two crew members in a personal dispute,” said a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson.

“One of the crew members was injured, was attended to by the onboard medical team and she is now in stable condition.

“Unfortunately, the other crew member is deceased after he went overboard and was recovered in a search and rescue operation.”

At the time of the incident the ship was en route to Coco Cay, Royal Caribbean’s private island resort located in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas.
