The incident occurred aboard the Icon of the Seas on the Frightening Bolt, at 14 metres the biggest drop at sea and known for its trapdoor launch and 360° loop.

As the man descended the enclosed tube, a section of acrylic glass shattered, slicing into his leg and back.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as “horrifying,” with water gushing from the broken slide and passengers screaming for the ride to be stopped.

Royal Caribbean confirmed the incident and stated that the guest received medical care onboard and is in stable condition.

The Frightening Bolt was closed for the remainder of the sailing, pending a full investigation.

The accident occurred last Thursday during a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise, with stops in St. Maarten, St. Thomas and CocoCay, Bahamas.

It is the second incident involving Icon in recent times. Two weeks ago a crew member stabbed a female colleague before jumping overboard to his death.
