Two men have survived a dramatic plane crash after their light aircraft made an emergency landing on Mona Vale Golf Course in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
The Piper PA-28 Cherokee, operated by a flight instructor and his student, departed Camden Airport around 1pm for a training flight intended to land in Wollongong.
The aircraft suffered a sudden loss of engine power mid-flight, forcing the pair to attempt a landing on the golf course just after 2pm.
Eyewitnesses described the surreal moment as golfers watched the plane descend overhead before it slammed into the green.
“It was dead silence… then a big crunching sound,” said one witness, who was playing nearby.
Despite the impact, both men – believed to be in their 50s – escaped with minor injuries and were treated by paramedics before being transported to Royal North Shore Hospital in stable condition.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has launched an investigation.
