Q: Congratulations on the opening of Helloworld Travel Nerang. How does it feel to become a multi store owner?

A: Mildly terrifying! But stepping into this next chapter alongside Rechelle has made the journey feel both exciting and achievable.

When you share such an important milestone with someone you’ve known for a long time, someone who shares your values, your passion for the travel industry and who has stood beside you as a constant supporter and champion – it just makes sense.

I truly believe in the Helloworld network. When you have genuine trust in the brand, confidence in its future and a passion for what we do, taking the next step into multi-store ownership feels like a natural progression.

While it’s certainly been a little daunting at times, it’s also been incredibly rewarding and I couldn’t imagine taking that leap with a better business partner by my side. Here’s to the next chapter and all the opportunities it will bring.

Q: What are some of the challenges in running two stores?

A: One of the biggest challenges of multi-store ownership is being present. I genuinely love being part of the day-to-day business, connecting with our community and seeing our clients.

Over the years, many of our clients have come to expect that I’ll be there, so splitting my time across two locations can sometimes feel like I’m letting people down.

That’s why I’m incredibly fortunate to have Rechelle leading Nerang. I have complete trust in her ability to care for our team, clients and business. While I’ll still visit regularly (when needed and, hopefully when wanted!) I’m comfortable knowing Nerang is in very capable hands.

Thankfully, technology has also made this transition much easier.

With the reporting and insights available through Resworld and tools like DataVantage, I can still keep my finger on the pulse of both businesses, remain involved in key decisions and stay connected to what’s happening, even when I’m not physically in the store every day.

Rechelle and I are still learning what works best for us as multi-store owners and I’m sure that will continue to evolve over time. But that’s one of the things I love most about this industry – you never stop learning. Success comes from being willing to grow, adapt and embrace change.

Q: How will your knowledge and experience in the industry help in running and expanding the new business?

A: Over time you accumulate knowledge from both the successes and the challenges. You learn what works, what doesn’t and how to navigate the inevitable changes that come with running a business and working in such a dynamic industry.

Experience also brings valuable relationships. Over the years you build connections with clients, suppliers, industry colleagues and your local community.

Those relationships become one of your greatest assets, providing support, opportunities and insights that simply can’t be learned from a textbook.

Some of the most valuable lessons come from the difficult moments and some of the best opportunities come from having the confidence to apply what you’ve learned along the way.

After 24 years in the travel industry, I still learn something new every day.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone considering expanding and becoming a multi store owner?

A: My biggest piece of advice would be to trust yourself.

Talk to the important people in your life and lean on those who know you best. Their perspective, support and honesty can be invaluable when you’re making big decisions.

Trust your team. Trust Head Office. Ask questions and seek help when you need it.

One of the greatest strengths of the Helloworld network is the willingness of people to share their knowledge and experiences. Reach out to other franchisees for input on your ideas, whether it’s marketing, store fit-outs, team management or business growth. I’ve found that some of the best ideas come from simply starting a conversation.

Don’t be afraid to ask for advice but remember that nobody knows your business quite like you do.

Most importantly, allow yourself to grow. Growth is rarely comfortable. It can be challenging, overwhelming and, at times, downright scary. There will always be reasons not to take the next step and there will never be a perfect time.

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that you never really know what’s possible unless you’re willing to give it a go. Back yourself. Be open to learning. Embrace the opportunities that come your way and trust that you will figure things out along the way.

Some of the most rewarding chapters of your life and career begin just outside your comfort zone.

Q: How are you and Rechelle enjoying the business venture together?

A: My answer will probably be very different to Rechelle’s! 😂

Honestly, I love it.

For many years, Rechelle has been one of the first people I turn to when I have a question, need advice, or want to talk through a challenge. Having someone you trust completely, who understands both the industry and your values, is incredibly reassuring.

Now, I get to do that in a professional capacity as well, which makes this partnership even more special.

I believe that two heads are better than one. We each bring different strengths, perspectives and ideas to the table and together we’re able to challenge each other, support each other and make better decisions for our business.

Q: Finally, what is it about working in the travel industry that you love so much?

A:  What isn’t there to love? Apart from the airlines and their policies (joke).

But in all seriousness, it’s the people that I love most about this industry.

It’s the clients who trust us with their holidays and special moments. It’s the supplier partners who generously give their time to educate, support and help us deliver incredible travel experiences.

And it’s the people within our Helloworld network who make this industry such a rewarding place to be.

Over the years, I’ve built genuine friendships with clients, colleagues and suppliers, and that’s something really special. We celebrate each other’s successes, share our challenges and are always willing to lend a hand when someone needs support.

This industry is full of passionate, resilient and fun people. We know how to work hard, we (really!) know how to have a good time and most importantly, we know how to cheer each other on.

The sense of community and connection is something I never take for granted.
