Azamara Cruises will introduce the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines on selected voyages from December, giving guests the opportunity to complete an internationally recognised wine qualification while at sea.
Presented with American Wine School, the course will cover major grape varieties, wine styles, storage, service and food pairing. Participants will complete guided tastings before sitting the official WSET Level 1 examination onboard.
The programme will be led by Marianne Frantz, American Wine School Founder, WSET certified educator and Advanced Sommelier. Guests not enrolled in the course can also attend selected tastings and destination based food and wine pairing sessions.
The first course will operate aboard Azamara Quest during its Panama Canal Christmas and New Year voyage departing December 18. A second will be offered aboard Azamara Journey on a South America sailing departing March 10, 2027.
Places are limited to 24 guests per sailing and the course is priced at $275 per person. It can be added to a booking before departure, giving travel advisors another enrichment option for clients interested in wine and culinary travel.
Wayne Fannon, Azamara Cruises Corporate Director Food and Beverage Operations, said food and wine could help travellers develop a better understanding of the places they visit.
“Through our onboard enrichment experiences, we are continuing to introduce experiences that make the journey itself richer and more rewarding,” Mr Fannon said.
